Venue info: The Bayou was a music venue and nightclub located in Georgetown, in an old building under the Whitehurst Freeway. The club opened in 1953 and featured Dixieland jazz, until the mid 1960s when it changed format to rock and roll.
In March, 1981 U2 kicked off their first North American tour here, playing two sold out shows the same day.
In 1977 Foreigner plays their debut concert here, a week later they are playing arenas.
And sadly in the Autumn of 1996, Eva Cassidy (1963-1996) gave her touching final performance here.
Other notable bands to have played the venue includes Kiss, R.E.M., The Cure, Dire Straits, The Police and Talking Heads.
The Bayou finally closed January 1ST 1999, after a new years eve show and was razed later the same year.
